Do Multivitamins Disrupt Your Sleep?

Many people all over the world take multivitamins for the sole purpose to prevent disease and have a healthy lifestyle. But when it comes to sleep, do these multivitamins disrupt sleep?

I recently posed this question to a few of my patients and learned this about their experience with multivitamins and sleep. Anecdotal responses suggested some patients reported shortened sleep and frequent awakenings during the night. A 2007 study showed participants had a slight higher rate of poor sleep in people taking multivitamins. However, researchers could not rule out the possibility that people with poor sleep habits are simply more likely to seek out multivitamins as a solution to their sleep.

There is some evidence that B vitamins in a multivitamin may play a role in affecting sleep. Studies have shown taking B vitamins before bed will increase the frequency of vivid dreams which do wake people up.
Your best solution to this question would be to just consume your multivitamin at breakfast and lunch. Think of your multivitamin as a boost for your day, you really need that boost in the morning and at noon. Avoiding a multivitamin at dinner is probably a good idea if your sleep is an issue.
